Το Σάββατο 15 Οκτωβρίου, πραγματοποιήθηκε στον Άγιο Γερμανό Πρεσπών η τοπική τελετή βράβευσης του παραδοσιακού νερόμυλου του χωριού που τιμήθηκε με το βραβείο της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης για την πολιτιστική κληρονομιά Europa Nostra 2016, στην κατηγορία «αποκατάσταση», και το βραβείο Grand Prix.

Την εκδήλωση συν-διοργάνωσαν: η ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΕΤΑΙΡΕΙΑ Περιβάλλοντος και Πολιτισμού, εκπρόσωπος της Europa Nostra στην Ελλάδα, η Περιφέρεια Δυτικής Μακεδονίας, ο  Δήμος Πρεσπών, η Εταιρία Προστασίας Πρεσπών, ο Φορέας Διαχείρισης Εθνικού Πάρκου Πρεσπών και ο Πολιτιστικός, Περιβαλλοντικός & Αθλητικός Σύλλογος Αγίου Γερμανού.

Two summer schools were held this summer in Prespa on the “Management of silvo-pastoral ecosystems”. The activities were organized by the Society for the Protection of Prespa (SPP) with the support of the Greek Biotope/Wetland Centre (EKBY), the Management Body of the Prespa National Park in Greece and the participating experts.

The results of an international census of two pelican species, the globally endangered Dalmatian pelican (Pelecanus crispus) and the great white pelican (Pelecanus onocrotalus), brought new data, obtained for the first time, into the hands of the scientists involved in their protection.

Our life in a wetland!

Primary school students from across the transboundary Prespa basin show us what the wetland looks like through their eyes

In a symbolic activity the children of transboundary Prespa have shown us their world in miniature. Children from primary schools in the three countries created scale models of each of their sides of Prespa, ultimately aiming to join the three models together, allowing the children to show us the area as a whole.

Joint Press Release 23 July 2015

The 3rd Pan-Hellenic Pelican Census was carried out for the third year in succession, on 16th May 2015, in 41 wetlands throughout Greece. The aim of the census was to record the total number of pelicans that use the wetlands of the country during their breeding period.

2 February 2015, World Wetlands Day: It’s time for ratification of the Agreement on the transboundary Prespa Park

2 February 2015 is not only World Wetlands Day, but it is also 5 years to the day since the 3 states sharing the Prespa basin joined with the European Union and all signed the International Agreement for the Protection and Sustainable Development of the Prespa Park Area. The Agreement still remains inactive because the Greek side alone has not ratified it. Recently the other two littoral countries, without Greece, established a “transboundary Biosphere Reserve” in the area under the auspices of UNESCO, which they have invited Greece to join.
