Locating bats in Galicica National Park

April 2014

A two-day workshop on bat echolocation analysis for monitoring of bat populations was co-organized by Galicica National Park (GNPs), the Society for the Protection of Prespa (SPP) and GIZ on the 25th and 26th of April 2014 and hosted in GNP’s Information Centre in Stenje.

The midwinter waterbird counts took place across the Prespa borders again this year

The annual midwinter counts to record overwintering populations of aquatic bird species in Prespa’ s wetlands were completed in January. The counts were carried out by the SPP on behalf of the Hellenic Ornithological Society as part of the International Waterbird Census (IWC) which happens every year during the winter period.

Summer bat field surveys

Once again, during the period 19/07-13/08/2010, the SPP carried out bat research missions, within the framework of the actions for the protection of threatened fauna species. This action was carried out in collaboration with Greek experts, the French NGO “Groupe Mammalogique Breton” and four other volunteers from different regions of France.

Reedbed monitoring in the Prespa Lakes
