Adonis is starting to build his new wooden boat. He is one of the few who still have this skill. He makes a living from fishing in the Prespa Lakes. The Society for the Protection of Prespa has spent many years studying the fish species of these same lakes. With the documentary “Crafted by Time”, director Vangelis Efthymiou transports us to the magical world of the Prespa Lakes.
“The Treasures of Our Lakes” travels to Kozani
The Perfectural Administration of Kozani, in cooperation with the Society for the Protection of Prespa, will host the exhibition “The treasures of our lakes”, aiming to inform the wider public in the issues concerning the rare fish fauna of Prespa. The latest publication from the Society for the Protection of Prespa entitled "Saving fish biodiversity in the Prespa basin", which came about under the LIFE+ Information & Communication project "Fish, Fisheries and European Policy in the Prespa Basin", includes subjects such as the ecology of the fish species found in Prespa and the threats they face, the features of local fisheries and the problems fishermen encounter, what is and isn’t provided for under national and European legislation for fish and fisheries, the cross-border aspect of the issue and proposals for sustainable management. The exhibition “The treasures of our lakes” will be hosted at the Aquarium of Kastoria in cooperation with the Society for the Protection of Prespa, in order to inform the wider public on the rare fish fauna of Prespa.

The Society for the Protection of Prespa celebrated the World Biodiversity Day, on the 22nd of May, with the fish of Prespa on the first spot.
Transboundary Prespa puts fish and fisheries centre stage
A meeting on the subject of ‘Fish and Fisheries’ was held on Friday 4th May at the Pyli Information Centre in Greece run by the Prespa National Park Management Body; the meeting was attended by organisations from transboundary Prespa, including municipalities, fishery authorities, national parks, fishery co-operatives, scientists and environmental organisations.

The “Treasures of our Lakes” exhibition is on the road in the Transboundary Prespa Park
The mobile exhibition about fish and fisheries in Prespa began its transboundary travels starting off at the Saraj Cultural Centre in FYR of Macedonia and the two largest secondary schools in the city of Korcë, Themistokli Germenji and Raqi Qerenxhi, in Albania.
All generations learn all about fish!
With the occasion of the World Environment Day, during the last weekend of May the mobile exhibition “The treasures of our lakes” moved to the Environmental Park of Kastoria and more specifically to Kastoria’s Environmental Education Centre.

As part of the programme Life+ Information & Communication (2010-2013): “Fish, Fisheries and European Policy in the Prespa Basin,” the biologist and nature photographer Andrea Bonetti photographed 12 of the 23 fish species known to live in the Prespa lakes.
